Learning and Teaching

At St Thomas' we endeavour to provide an education that prepares students for their future, not our past.

Contemporary Learning gives attention to identifying core knowledge, skills and understandings that are required to be successful in today's world. Core capacities such as high order thinking, creativity, collaboration and the use of contemporary literacies are considered to be powerful learning opportunities for the contemporary learner. We use the 'Learning Centred Schools' – 'A Sacred Landscape' (Catholic Education Office Melbourne) as a basis for Contemporary Learning at St Thomas'. This Contemporary Learning Schema states that "The Catholic School is a sacred landscape where faith, culture and life are in dialogue and where learners are empowered to shape and enrich their world with meaning, purpose and hope derived from their encounter with life and the teachings of Jesus".
