School Community

School Community

"It takes a Village to Raise a Child" (African proverb)

St Thomas the Apostle is a welcoming and inclusive school. The sense of community is an important and proud element of our school. We appreciate and encourage parents to build partnerships between school and home and become active participants in their children’s education.

The Parents and Friends (P&F) Association is a dynamic group of parents who support the school by conducting social events, fundraising activities and supporting families within our community.

The P&F plays an important role in the life of the school. The main aim of the committee is to raise funds to benefit the children of the school and to offer social activities for the school community. This is achieved through various events which may be fundraising and/or social.

Some of the traditional events the P&F have co-ordinated are:

  • Mother’s Day Stall
  • Father’s Day Breakfast
  • Chocolate Drive
  • Entertainment Books
  • Special Friends' Day
  • Beginning of the Year Welcome Night
  • Trivia Night
  • Family Bush Dance
  • Special Food Days

The Parents and Friends' Committee also take an active role in working with staff to organise school based functions such as the Art Show.

Working Bee Committee

The Working Bee Committee meet once a term. The committee share the co-ordination of Working Bees and welcome all attendees. Parents are encouraged to assist with the maintenance of the school by attending Working Bees usually held four times per year. Working Bees generally finish with a barbeque and this is another way to meet other families.
