School Community

"It takes a Village to Raise a Child" (African proverb)

St Thomas the Apostle is a welcoming and inclusive school. The sense of community is an important and proud element of our school. We appreciate and encourage parents to build partnerships between school and home and become active participants in their children’s education.

At St Thomas’ the creation of a sustainable garden has helped create strong bonds between the school and parish community. The garden was built and continues to be sustained by the voluntary efforts of our parents. Formal garden classes are taught with the assistance of parent volunteers and a garden teacher. The program enhances students' understanding of sustainable living through cultivating, harvesting and growing fruit, vegetables and herbs. Each Friday a market is held before school selling our garden produce. Raffle tickets for the eggs our hens produce are also sold and then a winner is drawn at the weekly Assembly.
